Mission

The Allegheny Forest Alliance is a non-profit coalition of school districts, townships, recreation groups, businesses and others.  The AFA supports and promotes sustainable forestry, environmental stewardship and multiple-use management of the Allegheny National Forest and other public forestlands on the Allegheny Plateau in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  By nurturing these forests, the AFA hopes to ensure a stable future for our children, our communities and our rural way of life.

Scope of AFA Activities

The AFA is the voice for school districts, townships, communities, recreation groups, businesses and others concerned with legal challenges to the inalienable right to benefit fully from the use public lands.
The AFA promotes public interest in maintaining an adequate, stable and sustainable supply of forest goods and services as guaranteed by law.
The AFA supports continued use of public forestlands for recreational use.
The AFA advocates multiple-use of our forest resources to the public as well as local, state and federal legislators.
The AFA coordinates “Action Alerts” and publishes quarterly newsletters that call attention to or solicit support for Alliance positions on current legislative and forest initiatives.
The AFA offers expert testimony at hearings related to forest use policies.
The AFA maintains representation on the “National Forest Counties and Schools Coalition.”
